畚箕湖究竟有沒有湖？

阿里山奮起湖百年老街是最近旅遊懷舊風最熱門的景點之一，奮起湖舊名又稱「畚箕湖」，其實奮起湖從來就不是一座湖，只是嘉義縣竹崎鄉海拔1405公尺的山鎮，因為東、西、北三面都環山，加上地勢低窪，中間低平，形狀像一個畚箕，雲霧瀰漫繚繞時就像一座美麗的湖，因而得名。

Fan Chi Hu original name was Dustpan Lake；actually, Fan Chi was never as a lake it was around the mountain above Sea level by 1,405 meters. Because of its east,west and north sides around by mountains plus lower level of the ground, the shape looks like a Dustpan. When cloud filed around the Fan Chi Hu, it really likes a beautiful lake, this was the name from. 

奮起湖鐵路便當是這樣開始紅的

鐵路便當可能是很多人最懷念美食的票選第一名，日據時代，因為阿里山鐵路在奮起湖設站，當時上山買山產的都以奮起湖為中繼站。火車清晨由嘉義發車上阿里山，到奮起湖恰巧是中午時間，所以許多旅客便會在這裡用餐，奮起湖的鐵路便當就是這樣開始紅起來的。小時候每天放學回家第一件事，就是幫家裡準備要賣的便當，就可想像當時的盛況。

Beginning of the Fenci Lake railway boxed lunches

Railway boxed lunches are the most memorable food for most of the people. During the Japanese occupation era, Fenci Lake was the transfer spot for goods trading. The train departed from Chia-yi station in the early morning and arrived Fenci Lake at noon. Most of the passengers were having their lunches here, and this is why the Fenci Lake boxed lunches started.
